Is the Obagi Blue Radiance Peel the Secret to Effortless Glow?
Peels are what footballs are to men, integral and constant. So why choose to support Southampton when you can choose to support Liverpool? Enter - Obagi Blue Peel Radiance. It is the superficial peel that is loved by Dermatologists, Skin Experts and Skin Enthusiasts all over the world. Just 4mls of this beautiful blue vial can leave you with an immediate glow, improved skin tone and texture and of course, overall radiance.
So, What is an Obagi Blue Peel Radiance?
Contrary to popular belief, your face will not fall off like Samantha on Sex and the City. It is a superficial peel that works to exfoliate, brighten and refresh your skin - all in one simple 20 minute session. It is packed with our favourite exfoliants such as: Salicylic Acid (BHA, anti-inflammatory), Glycolic Acid (AHA) and Lactic Acid (AHA).
Together they help penetrate the epidermis to help target clogged pores, improving skin texture, improvising hyperpigmentation, minimising fine lines and wrinkles and above all, giving the skin an overall bright glow, think disco ball but without the rollerblades.
It is incredibly gentle, with no downtime, the treatment is led by YOU!
So there is no exact set time on how long the peel is left on, it is completely dictated by the practitioner and the patient.
The first 24-48 hours: You will get this intense glass like shine, which is stunning!
And then the magic happens
Between day 3 and 6 post peel: You can experience some shedding/peeling.
The severity of this is completely subjective from person to person, many patients find around their smile lines tend to be the largest amount of peeling as they move that area the most. However peeling tends to be fairly superficial. My number one advice AND the most important thing is - DON’T PICK!! And yes I mean it! This is not that Agony Aunt advice you used to see in Sugar Magazine that told you not to pick your spots, this is me telling you, if you pick you can develop hyperpigmentation which can be tricky to treat. Instead, use a gentle cleanser or a hydrating ceramide to gently buff off the loose skin. If you see a lot of peeling, you can use nail scissors to cut around the loose skin.
Can Everyone have this Treatment?
Everyone can have it done!! Yes, it is appropriate for all Fitzpatrick types, all skin alignments and the contra-indications are few and far between. Multiple Studies have shown how a patient’s skin looks brighter, fresher, clearer and overall more clear with a series of 3 peels performed at 2 week intervals. A Skin Consultation is conducted before each peel to make sure the peel is appropriate for the individual.
Ok That all Sounds Good - Take me Through the Process?
It's spicy! But let’s break it down into what to expect…
As it is superficial, you can have multiple treatments, 2 - 4 weeks apart and the best course of action is 4 to 6 peels in a course, or it can be used as a stand alone treatment. For many of my protocols, I recommend 1 Obagi Blue Peel Radiance before starting a medical grade skincare plan, especially for Acne and Hyperpigmentation patients. It helps prepare the skin for deeper penetration of the actives which results in better results from overall treatment.
After cleansing, we prep the skin using a Blue Peel toner, that honestly smells like acetone, but beauty is pain. Then depending on a number of factors such as, if you have ever had a peel before, sensitivity of your skin and the alignment you’re wanting to target, we do 2 passes of either 4mls of the solution, or 4 passes of 8mls of the solution.
Full transparency, When the peel is applied, the heat and burn feels like a 2 out 10, this will increase rapidly, but we use a fan and a finger touch technique to help minimise the pain. And this lasts approximately 1 to 2 minutes. After this subsides, the next layer is applied; and yes, this second pass is giving spicy margarita, however the pain is transitional. The peel is then neutralised with gentle cleanser, and then depending on your skin goals, serums such as Vitamin C can be applied or luxurious ceramides and always finishing with physical SPF.
So why not?!
I understand the world of “SkinTok” is incredibly overwhelming, and more often than not can be very misleading, so always stick to the facts, and when in doubt - ask the questions you’re scared to ask! At the end of the day it’s your face and your choice and no amount of “influencing” can make the right decision for you.
